Rabeprazole is used for treating ulcers of the stomach and duodenum,
(duodenal ulcers) erosive or
ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Zollinger-Ellison
Syndrome
(in which there is overproduction of acid caused by tumors). It also
is used with antibiotics for
eradicating Helicobacter pylori infections of the stomach that,
along with acid, are responsible for
many ulcers. Rabeprazole is in a class of drugs called proton pump
inhibitors (PPI) which block the
enzyme in the wall of the stomach that produces acid. |

backward flow of acid from the stomach causes heartburn and injury
of the food pipe (esophagus);
and conditions where the stomach produces too much acid, such as

Over-the-counter ranitidine is used to prevent and treat symptoms of
heartburn associated with
acid indigestion and sour stomach. |

Reglan increases the contractions of the stomach and small
intestine, helping the passage of food.
It is given to treat the symptoms of diabetic gastroparesis, a
condition in which the stomach does not
contract. These symptoms include vomiting, nausea, heartburn,
feeling of indigestion, persistent
fullness after meals, and appetite loss. Reglan is also used, for
short periods, to treat heartburn in
people with gastroesophageal reflux disorder. In addition, it is
given to prevent nausea and vomiting
caused by cancer chemotherapy and surgery. Metoclopramide may impair
the mental and/or physical
abilities required for the performance of hazardous tasks such as
operating machinery or driving a
motor vehicle. Reglan may cause mild to severe depression. If you
have suffered from depression in
the past, make sure your doctor is aware of it. Reglan may not be
the best drug for you. |
