Nexium is used for for the treatment of persistent heartburn
symptoms due to acid reflux disease.
Symptoms typically occur on 2 or more days per week despite
treatment and diet change.
For many people, Nexium can also heal damage to the esophagus caused
by acid reflux.
This damage can occur over time, when acid from the stomach erodes
(wears away) the lining of
the esophagus. known as erosive esophagitis. esomeprazole is in a
class of drugs called proton pump
inhibitors (PPI) which block the enzyme in the wall of the stomach
that produces acid. |

Rabeprazole is indicated for short-term (4 to 8 weeks) treatment in

For those patients who have
not healed after 8 weeks of treatment, an additional 8-week course
of Rabeprazole may be considered.

Famotidine blocks the action of histamine on stomach cells, and
reduces stomach acid production.
Famotidine is useful in promoting the healing of stomach and
duodenal ulcers, and in reducing ulcer
pain. Famotidine has been effective in preventing ulcer recurrence
when given in low doses for
prolonged periods of time. In doses higher than that used in ulcer
treatment, famotidine has been
helpful in treating heart burn and in healing ulcer and inflammation
of the esophagus resulting from
acid reflux (reflux esophagitis). |

Metoclopramide is used to treat the symptoms of a stomach problem
called diabetic gastroparesis.
It relieves symptoms of nausea, vomiting, continued feeling of
fullness after meals and loss of
appetite. Metoclopramide is also used, for a short time, to treat
symptoms such as heartburn in
patients who suffer esophageal injury from a backward flow of
gastric acid into the esophagus.
Metoclopramide decreases stomach acid reflux by strengthening the
lower esophagus sphincter.
It also hastens the stomach emptying of solid and liquid meals into
the intestines. Rapid emptying of
meals also help decrease the reflux of stomach acid and other
contents into the esophagus. |
