Aerolate (Theophylline) 200mg to 400mg tabs (generic) EM | |
| Aerolate (Theophylline) is used in therapy for respiratory diseases such as COPD or asthma under a variety of brand names and is still widely prescribed. However, because of a high incidence of side- effects and the availability of more potent and less toxic alternatives, some physicians have reservations about its use. However, it still retains an important role in the treatment of acute severe asthma. Other brand names include: Elixophyllin, Theo-24, Theo-Dur, Theolair. Airomir (Salbutamol) is a type of medicine known as a short-acting beta 2 agonist and works by acting on receptors in the lungs called beta 2 receptors. When Salbutamol stimulates these receptors it causes the muscles in the airways to relax which allows the airways to open. Salbutamol is specifically indicated for acute asthma; symptom relief during maintenance therapy of asthma and other conditions with reversible airways obstruction (including COPD and bronchitis). It is also used for protection against exercise-induced asthma. Other brand names include: Aerolin, Asthalin, Proventil, Teva, Ventolin. Asthafen (Ketotifen) in its oral form, is used to minimize the frequency and severity of asthma attacks and may allow for a reduction in the use of other asthma medications. Ketotifen is not effective in treating an active asthma attack. Other brand names include: Ketasma, Zaditen. * N/A Canada : Check Terms for Rest of World | |

| Advair Diskus (Fluticasone and Salmeterol) is a combination of inhaled drugs that is used to treat asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD and chronic bronchitis. It contains a combination of salmeterol, a bronchodilator of the beta-2 agonist type, and fluticasone propionate, an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid. Fluticasone propionate is a corticosteroid of the glucocorticoid family with potent anti-inflammatory actions. It reduces swelling caused by inflammation that narrows the airways. Less mucus is also produced. Salmeterol is a bronchodilator of the beta-2 agonist type that attach to beta-2 receptors on the smooth muscle cells that surround the airways, causing the muscle cells to relax and open the airways. Advair Diskus is also labelled Seretide Diskus by GlaxoSmithKline. Other brand names include: Seretide Diskus * N/A Canada : Check Terms for Rest of World | |
